What is ECU Tuning?

ECU tuning (also known as chip tuning or remapping) is a software upgrade to your vehicle’s Engine Control Unit. The factory ECU is programmed conservatively to account for varying fuel qualities, climates and driving conditions around the world — meaning there is significant untapped potential in your engine.

During the tuning process, data is extracted from your vehicle’s ECU and modified at a hexadecimal level. Common questions about ECU tuning and remapping

Will ECU tuning void my warranty?

Any modification to your vehicle has the potential to affect your manufacturer’s warranty. However, Evolve Technik has developed methods to make late-model tunes undetectable at dealership level for certain vehicles. We recommend checking your warranty terms and conditions, and we’re happy to discuss this during your consultation.

How long does the tuning process take?

A typical Stage 1 ECU remap takes between 2 and 4 hours, including data extraction, tune development and road testing. Stage 2 tunes with hardware installation may require a full day depending on the scope of work.

Can the tune be reversed?

Yes. We retain your original ECU data before any modification. The tune can be fully reversed to stock at any time — for example, before a dealer service or if you sell the vehicle.

Will it affect my fuel economy?

In most cases, fuel economy improves. Turbo and diesel engines in particular benefit from the increased torque — you need less throttle to reach your desired speed. Customers commonly report savings of 2–3L/100km in normal driving conditions.

Is the tune specific to my vehicle?
